This is me on my way to my first shift. Great excitement.
Today I had to say goodbye to my sidekick. Curt had to go back home. I'm now on my own in the big city. Went this morning to pick up my tickets to the dress rehearsal of the opening ceremony. Waited outside in a line up for over two hours. I left the door here at 8:30 a.m. and returned back again at 12:00. I thought I would never get there! Yet the tickets also included a bottle of wine, so it made the wait a little sweeter. The dress rehearsal is only for volunteers. Some are selling their tickets on craig's list. Well mine will not be sold. It's going to be a great time.
The sky train this morning was overwhelming. It was so full. I thought not one more person could fit on yet at the next stop, the doors opened and another 50 people squeezed on. I guess it's only going to get worse. I should miss the rush hours though as I start at either 7:00 am and finish at 2:30 or start at 2:30 and end 10:00. Eight hours in a row is something I haven't done in a while.
The first picture is of some coke people arriving. Thought one might be Marty Hamhuis, but since then I hadve hundreds and hundreds of those red uniforms. They could be their own Olympic team! The second one shows some of the tents around the hotel. There is a three foot high chain link fence around the whole thing. I hope tomorrow to get some pictures of the inside.
great pics, mom! good luck on your own, you'll do great! There are probably lots of people in your situation as well..just winging it!! cant wait for you to come home sunday!
ReplyDeleteSkytrain.... yeesh. My sister (lives in Van) advises to go early as it will be getting more and more chaotic. That's so cool, though, to be there for the craziness. I do not want to see all the advertising, I have heard it's insane, the torch ceremony was pretty ridiculous... a big Coke and RBC party. Whoops, I could get in trouble for saying that, eh?
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
wow, what an adventure you're having! I'm enjoying reading all about it :)
